It’s giveaway day on Sew Mama Sew and being in the Christmas spirit, I thought I’d participate this year by offering two Maian Shawl kits!
Each of the kits contains enough lace weight yarn to complete the shawl, a Maian pattern, a drawstring-project bag sewn by me, and a $10 gift certificate to my Ravelry store. The “Subtle” kit features Quince & Co’s Piper in Avocet as seen in the pattern sample and a dogs in galoshes project bag (note: the Piper yarn comes with hand-written tags because it came to me without any). The “Spicy” kit features two skeins of Malabrigo lace in Glazed Carrot and a fox project bag.
As an added bonus, I’m offering a third $10 gift certificate!
But wait, there’s more! I’m offering 20% off any pattern in my Ravelry store for your last-minute crafting (or gifting) needs with the code STILLTIME.
To enter, leave a comment below telling me your most (or least!) successful holiday craft project. I just had a bust yesterday trying to make a bunch of (now limbless) cornstarch dough ornaments, but my husband is still wearing the the sweater I knit him back in 2009! Also let me know if you have a subtle/spicy preference!
Entries accepted until December 12 at 5 p.m. PST
As for the gift certificates/discounts – here’s a few ideas from my self-published archive that can made in the next 16 days or less:
From left to right:
Row 1: Bradac, Zoetrope, Krona Tam
Row 2: Shoots & Ladders Cowl, Bob & Wave Cowl, Domenic Duck
Row 3: Zienna Zebra, Fisherman’s Wife Beret (Free), Heartrose Cardigan

I’d say my largest success was the year I made simple tied comforters for my girls. They were backed in flannel and had wild colored kitty cat prints on the front, and while they were sleeping on Christmas Eve I went into their rooms and covered them with their new blankets. In the morning they were so excited to show me us what they had, and I told them that Mrs. Claus must have made those just for them. 🙂
I don’t have a preference, I love both those colorways!

Mmm…that yarn looks delish! My best holiday project was Christmas bunting, made from instructions on Attic24. It is dark green triangles with a maroon/red border, strung together to spell out the words ‘Joyeux Noel’. The triangles have a little bell on the bottom and the words are separated with triangles that have crocheted holly stitched to them! I just love it.

This is the neatest gift ever. This should be fun and you have already made it easy for us. I am making sleighs. You take a kit kat candy bar and put a dap of glue on each end. Attach two candy canes to make the sleigh. Add 4 Hersey’s minatures candy pieces to top of kit kat bar with dap of glue to each piece. Add 3 more to the top of the 4 with glue; then 3 more pieces to the top of those with glue and then 2 more on top of those 3 with glue and then 1 more piece on top with glue again. 10 pieces altogether. Tie a ribbon around the sleigh and candy. Attach a bow. Cute and clever. Thank you for being a part of the Sew Mama Sew giveaway and giving me a chance to win. You can see a picture of the sleigh at Cotton Patch’s online catalog. Merry Christmas.

Well. My dear daughter… has pulled several Outlander cowls off of the needles. Very stressful. lol But at least they are easy and quick to make! Sewing wish. Well I’m making this tshirt quilt. I really hate ironing on interfacing. So I spent a day doing that. Then the next day I’m sewing…thinking to myself this interfacing seems way thicker then the last time I made a tshirt quilt. Then I had a thought, I went to my room and found the bag of the CORRECT interfacing! I used a HEAVY interfacing that I used to make fabric buckets…. I felt like a ding dong. I still do. lol I love the suble kit!!! 😉

I’ve crocheted an infinity scarf for my niece last year from yarn I handspun and dyed. That was a win!
I prefer the subtle prize pack I think…thanks for the chance to win!

How wonderful! Great giveaways! I think most of my projects turned out, but there is some crazy ornaments that went wonky a few years back!

I make many quilted lap robes for the nursing home, it is always so fulfilling to see their wonderful faces when I wrap them in a warm quilt. So that to me is a true success

I love the spicy kit! My crocheted snowflake bunting from last year is still my favorite holiday craft but I feel for you with the dough ornaments they are trickier than I remember from my childhood.

I once slaved away at a 26 page, cloth A-B-C book for my niece. It had all the letters+a picture on each page… textural elements, etc. Took forrrrrreeeevver. But it’s a treasured item to this day.

Hopefully my most successful one is this year. I’m a newer quilter and am always intimidated to make my mom anything quilty since she’s been sewing for decades and decades! No pressure, right? I’m make a VERY intricate paper pieced snowflake table running. Each snowflake has between 108-156 pieces and is only a hexagon about 8 inches across! Hopefully she’ll love it! I like the subtle yarn the best, but both are cute!

I think most successful holiday craft would be the wall hanging of the Moscow metro system I embroidered for my brother.

I like the spicy. Plus my husband doesn’t say it’s cold outside, he says, “it’s spicy”. He cracks me up and it never gets old! The worst handmade present I made was a sweatshirt, iron-on Christmas number for my mom in late 1980’s when fabric glitter paint was all the rage. I finished it Christmas eve and set it to out to dry. Something happened overnight and the glue shriveled up and curled the sweatshirt material so that the Christmas iron-ons resembled Fritos Scoops….. what’s worse than the Ugly Christmas Sweater? yep! The Ugly Christmas Sweatshirt!!!

There were a number of sparky Mary Englbret irons + glitter puffy paint sweat-shirts in my and my mother’s closet in the early 80’s too. It always started to peel off after a few washes!

My least successful was a knitted poncho for my daughter…it turned out fine, but she wouldn’t wear it! Stinker.

Prefer subtle.
I had to totally frog an entire scarf I was making for a friend. It was such a mess that I couldn’t even rip it out well enough to save the yarn. 😦

much to everyones hmm distress I’m not making any handmade presents this year .. I’m sort of fed up with getting gift certificates in return for cushion cases and bags and what nots .. so this year I’mgoign back to my pre-sewing times and am giving away books ..

My latest success was a stranded (fair isle) knit hat; it’s the first time my stitches came out even. I’d prefer the subtle version.

I made hand warmers for all my colleagues last year. they were all very pleased (that’s the successful part!) but I had to sew so late into the night (before) to finish them that I vowed I wouldn’t make last minute presents again!

Most successful was a pair of fingerless gloves for my younger brother. He was up before dawn taking care of out goats and even in TX it was cold. The gloves were great… for that one season before he outgrew them.
